With a deep love for the wilderness rooted from an upbringing in Idaho, my photography goes beyond the recreational values of life on the road and adventures. Growing up in a family of eight, I learned at a very early age to appreciate nature by spending family time camping and exploring the outdoors. The days of my youth consisted of stuffing the Suburban full of outdoor gear, kids, dogs and good food for extended camping trips. Nature is in my blood. I am committed to exploring cultures and the vast spaces of the world. My photography focuses heavily on this exact mission - to examine the intimacy of relationships between both people and places that we come to know and love.
An explorer at heart, I have rappelled waterfalls in the jungles of Ecuador, explored Machu Picchu's ruins, zipped through the rice patty fields of Vietnam via motorbike and backpacked Cambodia. I've ridden elephants in Thailand, lived in China, Peru, Ecuador and Hawaii, surfed the warm waves of Costa Rica where I saw my first sloth, and swam with sting rays in Nicaragua. I have skied in the shadow of the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps where I mostly just had drool flying off my face from the lovesickness. I have fished some of the best rivers in the Northwest and skied the Vallee Blanche of Chamonix, France where my love affair with alpinism exploded even more.
I believe in the human experience. I believe in creating a space that fosters real connections with others. Much of my early years in photography were spent shooting documentaries, volunteering as a humanitarian filmmaker and photographer in places like Haiti, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands, Peru, Ecuador, and Guatemala. Too many stories are left untold - I want to tell them. I do all this with a camera in hand. Photography is my tool and writing is my voice. My knack for story telling and creative directing is all about raw, honest moments, run and gun style in wild environments.
